Zeppelin Sightings

Saturday, May 19, 2012

I always enjoy seeing the Eureka in flight. Today while riding my vintage motorcycle I spotted it flying near the Dumbarton Bridge on the Newark side. I was amazed by how quickly it conducted a 180 degree turn. I pulled over and stopped to continued watching.

I was at the Shoreline Park in Mountain View, CA, on May 19, 2012, when I spied your airship in the sky. It was flying out of view so I got in my car and followed it until I could get a couple of photos of it. I see airships throughout the year here in Silicon Valley: Goodyear, Hangar 1 Vodka, Nickelodeon, Farmers, MetLife, etc. However, this was my first sighting of your ship (I was able to track it down via the phone number that was listed on its side). I look forward to seeing it again.

We had the wonderful opportunity of your ship flying over our school, Glenwood Elementary Sacramento CA, on May 4, 2012. For a lot of our students this was a thrill of a lifetime. And to find out your passengers were scientists searching for meteorites. So cool! And so perfect, since 4th grade has been studying rocks and just read about meteorites! The 3rd and 4th grade students were so thrilled they spelled HI to your ship. Never have we had the WHOLE playground participate!!!! We would truly love to see any pictures (if there are any) from the ships point of view. Thank you, Sincerely Theresa A. Henry Librarian Glenwood Elementary

At my office in Roseville I get a call from my daughter who says, "Run outside and see the blimp!" Grab my camera, and sure enough, there it is, motoring slowly overhead! Didn't know it was a zeppelin -- one of only two in the world! -- until I did a little research this morning. Didn't know it was hunting for meteorites, either! Fun stuff!

Driving down Sierra College in rocklin around 4pm, I see the ship and first think blimp, but a second of guessing scale i know its the dirigible from the bay. I immediatly start heading for a closer look. Truly awesome. Definitely need a ride.

I was kind of in awe as I drove home from work this evening. I saw the airship but it was a little too far to read any lettering but I just knew it had to be the Farmers airship. When I got home I jumped online to see if there was info on its location and was pleased to find out I was right. Nice site by the way. Maybe one of these days I will get the opportunity to take a ride. Of course I will have to get over that horrible fear of heights first.

I was sitting in my office in Pleasant Grove, CA when I saw some movement out the window. I yelled OMG!! My husband Don and I ran outside to see the airship near our ranch. What a thrill. Lots of wind from the south so we could see it move sideways. What a beauty.

I saw the airship from my office window this afternoon. I called it a blimp, and was immediately corrected by a co-worker who informed me it was a zeppelin.

Here is a shot that my 16 yr old daughter took from her bedroom window. I was happy to see her taking interest in this on her own without my prompting. It's a nice sign that we have her pointed in a good direction. :)

I got a kick out of this sighting of your Zepp. I flew in to Long Beach last weekend to the pleasant viewing of your Airship. I took the photo with my plane in the foreground. I had lunch on the Queen Mary and had a perfect window view of your ship doing several tours. It certainly adds to the activities of the area.

Not exactly a sighting but the Draw Something app that is all the rage these days gave gave me the word "Zeppelin" to draw so I was able to approach it from a local angle. Unfortunately the person I was playing the game with is in Canada and not as familiar with Eureka as the folks here in California.

I was talking with my neighbor when I heard this unusual sound of something flying by that I didn't recognize. I looked up and saw the Farmer's airship. Airship sightings are not real common here so I grabbed my cell phone and snapped this picture. That was on October 14, 2011 over Tucson, Arizona.

Airship sightings are *always* fun but once in a while you see one juxtaposed with something else that makes it extra special. One is Stanford's Dish and the other is Hoover Tower.

Zeppelin1.jpg is a view of the airship from an urban setting in SF. I had to run up the street to get this shot - there wasn't much time to see both the old San Francisco ghost sign and the zeppelin in the same frame! Zeppelin2.jpg was taken the day of my flight, as the airship left Oakland at the end of the day. It was such a great experience, and the photo feels a little bittersweet that the flight is over!
